Rickwood Field was home of the Birmingham Barons from 1910-1987, and this year they will travel back there Wednesday, June 25th to celebrate Birmingham’s rich baseball past.
The Birmingham Barons and Friends of Rickwood will welcome baseball fans back to legendary Rickwood Field for the 19th Annual Rickwood Classic presented by State Farm Insurance® and YP. Set for Wednesday, June 25th, the classic will celebrate the ‘Roaring Twenties’. The 12:30 p.m. contest will showcase the Birmingham Barons against the Mississippi Braves, Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. Former Cy Young award winner and Major League Baseball All-Star Dwight Gooden will be in attendance as the Guest of Honor and will be available for autographs during the game.
This year’s classic will celebrate the ‘Roaring Twenties’, a decade that saw the Barons capture two Southern Association titles and set numerous attendance records at Rickwood Field.
The Rickwood Classic was named Minor League Baseball’s Promotion of the Year in 2010 and in 2009 the event was named the most desirable Minor League Baseball game to attend in a poll on MiLB.com. Over 115,000 people have attended the Rickwood Classic since its inception in 1996 while it has been covered by dozens of local and national media outlets including HBO’s Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, ESPN and MiLB.com.
All tickets are general admission for $10. Groups of 10 or more can purchase tickets for $8 a piece.
