Summer is just around the corner! Now is the time to plan and register for summer camps around Birmingham! This is a great opportunity for your child to find a new and exciting learning or sports activity, and they will create memories to last a lifetime. If you do not see your favorite camp listed, please let us know, and we will have them included. We always value your input, and we love to hear what you think.

Zoo Camps

The Birmingham Zoo has revamped their annual summer camp! Be prepared for even more zoo learning and hands on activities. There are camps for almost every school age! These camps are not only educational, but also A LOT of fun. Zoo Camp will be held from June 4th-August 3rd. For additional information and pricing, check out the link HERE.

Primary Camps:

  • GRADES 4K – 5th
    • NEW! Adventures in Nature – Campers will explore animals, ecosystems, and the wonders of the natural world- in our own backyards and across the globe.
    • NEW! The Zoo and You – Discover the science behind zoos and the work we do each day to help animals in our care and in the wild.
  • GRADES 6th – 8th
    • NEW! Young Naturalists – Through hand-on explorations in nature, young naturalists will gain a better understanding of the world around them and their place in it.
    • NEW! Wildlife Researchers – Make unforgettable memories alongside Zoo staff as we take a look at real-world efforts to ensure species and their homes are safe and protected.

Specialty Camps:

  • GRADES 4K – 2nd
    • NEW! Naturally Gross! – Take a walk on the “wild side” with your grandparent or parent as we learn about some of the grossest, most disgusting features of the natural world! Fee covers both participants.

  • GRADES 3rd – 5th
    • Zoo Keeper – Experience some of the daily duties that go into caring for the animals that call the Zoo home. Campers will interact with Animal Care Professionals and our resident animals while exploring enrichment, animal diets, and more!
  • GRADES 6th – 8th
    • ZooKeeper – Roll up your sleeves and learn what it’s like to be an Animal Care Professional at the Birmingham Zoo! Campers will take part in many hands-on activities including husbandry, feeding, training, and enrichment.

*Zoo keepers start their day early, so this camp begins at 8:30am on Monday and 7:30am sharp Tuesday-Friday.

  • GRADES 9th – 12th
    • Animal Wellness – Explore the methods Animal Care and Veterinary Professionals use to ensure our resident animals are happy and healthy. Activities will include demonstrations, behind-the-scenes tours and hands-on opportunities alongside Birmingham Zoo staff.
    • NEW! Conservation Connections – With the Zoo as a base camp, we will explore conservation efforts taking place at the Birmingham Zoo and across the world. Campers will conduct observations, collect data, and participate in investigations to answer their own scientific questions.

Camp Straight Street

Camp Straight Street provides nine weeks of camp for a wide range of ages. From 3k all the way to 8th grade, there is a camp that everyone can enjoy. The camp is held at Shades Mountain Community Church in Bluff Park and teaches Christian principles to their campers. Camps start on June 4th. For a complete list of camps and to register click HERE

YMCA Camp Cosby

Camp Cosby is a sleep away camp for ages 6-16. This will be the 96th summer of this fun camp! Join over 2,000 campers in the Appalachian Mountains this summer! For registration and pricing click HERE.

Alabama School of Fine Arts Summer Camps

Camp Fletcher

Camp Fletcher is a summer camp that has been around for over 90 years. It is geared towards children in grades 1-12.

These camps are focused on the outdoors and teach life lessons through non competitive games and learning. This camp is so popular that grades 1-5 are already full, however, you can register to get put on a waitlist and see a full list of activities HERE.

 

McWane Science Center Summer Camps

If you want to add a little science to your summer, check out summer camps at the McWane Science Center! There are camps for Pre K-7th grade. Camps will begin on June 4th. PreK-Kindergarten camps are from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Camps for students entering 1st through 7th grade are 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Gross Out Camp

Another fun science summer camp option is Gross Out Camp at Birmingham Botanical Gardens. The kids will have so much fun, they won’t even know they are learning about science! For more information click HERE.

Dawson Music Academy Music Camp

If music or voice is more your tune, Dawson Music Academy is offering camps for children that have completed kindergarten-5th grade. There will be classes offered with various instruments and also voice classes. You do not have to be a student at the academy to participate in the summer camp. Samford University Summer Camps

Virginia Samford Theatre Stars Camp

Children ages 7-17 can get an opportunity to get hands on experience working in theatre. Students will get classes in several different components from acting and dancing to makeup and costume design.
